Process for Online Interview at MRDG, IISc (July 6-12, 2020)

Dear Candidates, we welcome you to online Interview at the Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics (MRDG) at IISc.

The Interviews will proceed in the following manner:

  1. You will receive an email from MRDG, IISc with the date and time of your interview.
  2. Please follow the instructions you receive in the email invitation.
  3. Ensure you have a stable internet connection on a desktop or laptop computer. 
  4. Interviews will take place online on the Google-Meet platform.
  5. Keep your EMAIL Account open before the scheduled time of the interview and wait for an email invitation from MRDG with a link to join the Google Meet. Familiarize yourself with features of the platform before the day of the interview.
  6. On the day of your interview, you will receive a phone call to join the Google Meet using the link provided in the email. Make sure your mobile phone listed on your application is working.
  7. Click on the Google Meet link in the email and wait for the organizer to let you join the meeting.
  8. Keep your camera and microphone ON. Show a Govt approved ID card (eg, Passport, Driver’s Licence, Pan Card, AADHAAR Card) to the committee of faculty at MRDG. You will also be able to see the faculty.
  9. During the interview, the use of headphones is advised to reduce background noise.  Ensure that no other individual or recording device is present in the room. The recording feature of the Google Meet platform must be turned off.
  10. You will be interviewed for approximately 30 minutes.
  11. You will be asked questions using voice or will be shown questions on a white sheet with a black marker or sketch pen. Questions may also be asked by typing in the chat window. Depending upon the nature of the answer, you may answer using voice (audio alone), using pen and paper (video), or by typing in the chat window. Keep white sheets and black marker handy to draw diagrams and to write.
  12. At the end of the interview, you will be asked to leave the meeting/removed from the meeting.
  13. Short-listed candidates in the 1st Interview (July 6-9) will be called for 2nd online Interview (July 10-12). You will receive another email if you are selected for the 2nd interview.

Admission to the department for Ph.D this degree is through a departmental selection process for which student are considered through a number of channels.

    • Qualification : Students with following minimum qualifications are eligible to applying for this.
      • Master’s or equivalent degree in any branch of science or
      • Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Medicine/Engineering/Technology/Veterinary Science/Pharmacy
    • Eligibility : Candidates who have qualified for one of the following exams are eligible to appear for an interview process. For eligibility please refer to cutoff marks for direct interview process set for that academic year(this changes every year).
      • CSIR-UGC NET examination
      • DBT-JRF ship
      • GATE
      • INSPIRE Fellowship

For students holding degrees in medicine, veterinary and pharmaceutical sciences, who wish to apply for PhD in the departments in science faculty, qualifying in any of the national exams is not mandatory.

  • Interview : The eligible candidates are interviewed during the month of June every year. The interview takes place over seven days. Candidates are encouraged to meet prospective faculty during these days.

2.Integrated PhD

Admission to the department for this degree is through a division wide selection process which involves qualifying a written test followed by a interview process.

  • Qualification : Students who are in 3rd year of their B.Sc. are eligible for applying for this degree and have 60% qualifying marks.
  • Written test : The student qualified through the JAM entrance test are short listed for interview.
  • Interview : It is scheduled for 3 days in the month of may in 3rd or 4th week.
